Brand New Volkswagen Mk7 Golf R 19'' Cadiz Alloy Wheels Rim Separates From Spokes at High Speeds

I got the chills after viewing an interesting set of pictures I found on news.epicinter.net

2014 Golf R wheel breaks off the hub at high speed

The owner of the 2014 Golf R has apparently only owned it for about 2 weeks when the failure happened.
There were 3 passengers when the accident happened outside Brisbane, Queensland in Australia. What really bothers me is the fact that the rim and spokes separated at high speeds around a bend. This is definitely one of those things your expect to never see.

The tyre was still on the rim after the accident

Three spokes broke in half and the other two remained on the hub

If I was a passenger in that car, drinks will be on me every time we go out with the driver. Just imagine the pressure he must have felt knowing that if he failed to control the car, he and his friends are goners. One thing I do know for sure is that he was not holding the steering lightly like most drivers do with power steering wheels because if he wasn't, there is no way Big Ben would have survived that accident.

Even if the wheel had hit a pothole or loose object in the road, one would expect it to bend, not separate. Volkswagen should definitely be looking at this incident and learn as much as they can before people die. We all know people that buy GTI's and Golf R's do it for the speed and most of them are young and inexperienced drivers.

In the mean time if you own a Golf R with Cadiz wheels, it would probably be best to switch them out for the Pretoria set or those awesome Monaco set or something else of you liking. Or you can do the responsible thing and that don't speed. If you are a speed freak, make sure you only satisfy your speed craving when driving alone.
